Game manufacturers have not made it easy to backup games, presumably to help prevent piracy. Somehow I don't see this actually preventing professional pirates from copying or putting them out of business, but I do see it inconveniencing legitimate users in many cases.
Hey, A CD or DVD is a fragile and easily damageable device, especially with little brothers and sisters somewhat recklessly inserting and removing them, middle aged kids playing to all hours of the night while drinking red bull and eating pizza, and the older set enjoying the gaming console over a few drinks. Disks get damaged - it's a fact. If you don't have a backup you are out of luck and need to buy another copy, which gets expensive and old very very fast.
Unless you take pristine care of your games, play them alone, don't have kids, pets, or friends that play with you, it is worth the hassle to make backup copies and you should be doing it regularly.
You need special purpose backup software to protect your Wii and other games. Fortunately there are some very well regarded and legitimate ones, and they are very easy to use.
You simply install your game copying software onto your computer, then load your game into the CD/DVD drive. The software copies it onto your computer. You then load a blank DVD into your CD/DVD drive, and simply press the copy button on your software. Minutes later you have a perfect backup copy.
Store these copies somewhere safe, preferably not with all the others. My dad takes mine to his office. My friend Mortimer stores them in a safety deposit box in the bank, which we all think is overkill and laugh about a lot!
Fact is though, eventually one or more of your games will get damaged. Maybe the cat will pee on one. Maybe your friend Tiny Two Ton will sit on a few and crack them. It will happen, so you need a backup solution!
It is not difficult to copy or backup your games. Because chances are that eventually one or more games are damaged, I recommend you make backup copies and store them somewhere safe.
